The Tripura government declared that indigenous students would have the option to write their Kokborok subject exams conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) in any script of their preference, including the Roman script. Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, also serving as the cabinet spokesperson, made the announcement during a press conference, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding linguistic diversity.”This decision underlines the state government’s dedication to honoring all languages, each holding significant importance within our state.
While every party has the democratic right to call for a bandh, we believe strikes are not conducive to resolving issues and only inconvenience the public. Therefore, the state government has applied for the withdrawal of the student-led political party’s bandh,” stated Minister Chowdhury. He further noted that historically, the usage of the Roman script in TBSE examinations has remained below 2 percent.
“The Chief Minister has already reached out to the Chairman of CBSE regarding the matter of the Roman script. We await their response. We urge student organizations and supporters of the bandh to reconsider their stance, as efforts have been made to address this issue. The Chief Minister’s letter to the CBSE Chairman, along with discussions in the recent Assembly sessions, demonstrate our commitment to resolving this matter amicably,” he added.
