Tripura imports essential commodities via national highways, ensures ample stock

Assuring the public of an abundant supply of food and daily necessities, the Tripura government has taken proactive measures to import essential commodities via national highways. A report from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs emphasized that there is no cause for concern regarding shortages of essential items. The public is urged to cooperate with the rationing system temporarily implemented by the state government for the sale of petrol and diesel.

While acknowledging a slightly lower stock of petrol and diesel in various divisions of the state, including the IOCL depot at Dharmanagar under North District, efforts are underway to normalize supplies swiftly. The press release highlighted the transportation challenges posed by heavy rains in the Jatinga-Lampur area of the Lamding-Badarpur section of the North East Frontier Railway. To mitigate this, various daily necessities, including petroleum products, have been routed into the state via road from neighboring regions in recent days. The railway authority is actively repairing the railway line in the affected area, with a trial run conducted recently encountering some issues, which are being diligently addressed to resume freight services promptly.

Additionally, IOCL authorities have been consistently importing petrol and diesel into the state via road tankers from depots in Betkuchi, Lamding, and Silchar in Assam since the suspension of rail transport. The transportation of foodstuffs, petrol, and diesel via road will continue until railway services are reinstated in the near future.
