Tripura is set to host the second National Lok Adalat of the year, slated for tomorrow, with an ambitious target of resolving more than 17,000 legal cases. Spearheaded by Jhuma Datta Chowdhury, the member secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority, the initiative aims to address a significant backlog of legal disputes that have overwhelmed the state’s judicial system. Chowdhury has announced the commencement of proceedings at 10 am, not only at Tripura High Court but also at various district and sub-divisional court premises across the state. The event is confirmed to proceed even on public holidays, underscoring the commitment to swiftly resolve lingering court cases.
A total of 17,938 cases are slated for resolution, strategically distributed among 42 benches across different court premises. The cases span a wide spectrum of legal disputes, encompassing pre-litigation issues to unresolved court cases, including claims for motor accident compensation, disputes over bank loan repayments, and matrimonial conflicts. The Tripura High Court will host a dedicated bench to handle 46 cases, while the Agartala court premises will accommodate up to eight benches for Lok Adalat proceedings. Notices have been dispatched to all involved parties to aid in preparation from both sides ahead of the proceedings.
Chowdhury emphasized proactive engagement, particularly involving individuals who received Lok Adalat notices since May 1, working closely with the District Legal Service Authority and Sub-Divisional Legal Service Authority offices. Paralegal volunteers will also be available to assist individuals summoned to the Lok Adalat, streamlining proceedings.
