In a significant operation targeting narcotics smuggling, Tripura Police intercepted a passenger bus in Bagbasa, North District, apprehending four women and one man from Bihar in possession of 20 kilograms of ganja. The operation, conducted near a petrol pump under Bagbasa police station, followed a tip-off regarding illicit activities in the area. The bus, registered in Assam, was intercepted by police personnel on Sunday morning, leading to the discovery of 22 packets containing ganja concealed among the passengers’ belongings. The arrested individuals were identified as Rajeev Prasad (30), Meena Devi (40), Shakila Devi (42), Viva Devi (22), and Pooja Devi (20), all hailing from Bihar.

According to Debashish Saha, the sub-divisional police officer of Dharmanagar, the apprehended individuals had arrived in Dharmanagar by train from Agartala earlier on Sunday, with intentions to travel to Silchar. The seized ganja, estimated to be worth Rs 4 lakh on the black market, underscores the gravity of the smuggling attempt.

“A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, section number 2/2024 at Bagbasa police station. The arrested individuals have been produced before the Dharmanagar District Court,” stated SDPO Saha, highlighting the stringent legal action being pursued against the accused.
