In a significant triumph for Tripura Police, notorious dacoit Nazim Uddin was apprehended late Saturday night, marking a major breakthrough in law enforcement efforts. Hailing from Phulbari village panchayat under Kadamtala police station of Dharmanagar in Tripura’s North district, the 33-year-old Nazimuddin has been a notorious figure in criminal circles for a staggering period of 10 to 12 years, carrying out a series of dacoities not only in Tripura but also in neighboring Assam, as per police sources.

The arrest unfolded after Nazimuddin and an accomplice sought temporary refuge near the residence of a local businessman in the Bagbasa North Ganganagar area, with intentions of executing another criminal act. However, acting on intelligence inputs, Tripura Police swiftly intervened, leading to a confrontation during which Nazimuddin and his associate opened fire on the pursuing officers. In response, the police retaliated, resulting in the surrender of the perpetrators, informed North Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty.

The apprehension resulted in significant recoveries, including tools commonly associated with criminal activities such as a country-made gun, a Da, a lock cutter, and a cache of narcotic yaba tablets. While one of Nazimuddin’s associates managed to evade arrest during the police encounter, Nazimuddin himself received medical treatment at Dharmanagar North District Hospital before being remanded to police custody for five days.
