Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially declared Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma as its candidate for the East Tripura (ST) seat. Kriti Singh Debbarma, the elder sister of Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, emerges as a prominent contender for representing the party in the parliamentary constituency. With Tripura boasting two significant seats, including East and West Tripura, the nomination of Kriti Singh Debbarma underscores the BJP’s concerted efforts to consolidate its electoral presence in the region.

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, previously vocal about sending his ‘own people’ to Delhi as Members of Parliament, has championed this move as integral to realizing their accord with the Central government. Reports suggest that Kriti Singh Debbarma, who had been residing in Jharkhand following her marriage, returned to Tripura following the tripartite agreement between the Centre, Tripura Government, and Tipra Motha.

Her active involvement in party affairs became apparent during a recent party meeting in Khowai, where she shared the dais with Pradyot, signaling her commitment to the party’s objectives and electoral endeavors.
