The All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced its lineup of contenders for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies across various states, including Tripura, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Telangana, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, and Sikkim.

Among the notable selections is Asish Kumar Saha, President of Tripura Pradesh Congress, who will contest for the West Tripura seat. Saha, previously victorious in the 2018 assembly elections from the Bordowali constituency on a BJP ticket, later relinquished both his position and party membership to join the Congress fold.

Despite spirited efforts in subsequent by-elections and the 2023 assembly polls against Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, Saha suffered defeat. Approximately a year ago, Asish Kumar Saha ascended to the position of TPCC president, succeeding Congress MLA Brijit Sinha.

As the Left is yet to reveal its candidate roster for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Asish Kumar Saha is poised to contest for the West Tripura seat. His formidable adversary will be BJP candidate Biplab Kumar Deb, a former chief minister and incumbent Rajya Sabha MP.
