The second phase of elections for Tripura’s East Parliamentary Constituency commenced today amidst stringent security measures deployed across the region. This critical phase of the Lok Sabha election covers all assembly constituencies of Dhalai, North, Unakoti, Khowai, as well as four assembly constituencies of South Tripura and three assembly constituencies of Gomati district. According to an official from the Chief Electoral Office of Tripura, speaking exclusively to India Today NE, polling commenced promptly at 7 AM across all 1664 designated polling stations.

Despite initial glitches with some Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), replacements were swiftly made to ensure smooth proceedings. The turnout has been notably high, with long queues forming at polling stations since the early hours of the morning. “A total of 13,96,761 eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the East Lok Sabha constituency,” the official disclosed. Among them, 7,02,511 are male voters, 6,94,237 are female voters, and 13 are transgender voters. Additionally, around 16,000 Bru voters are anticipated to participate in the electoral process.

The commencement of voting in Tripura’s East LS seat marks a significant step in the democratic process, with voters turning out in large numbers despite security concerns, reflecting their commitment to shaping the future of the region through their ballots.
