Amidst the fervor of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) made a significant arrest in Matinagar, a bordering village in the West District, apprehending a woman suspected of involvement in human trafficking across the Bangladesh-India border. Tapas Das, the Officer-In-Charge of the Government Railway Police Station, revealed that the arrest stemmed from a case registered on March 23, leading to the detention of six Bangladeshi nationals. During the investigation, authorities identified Parul Akhter from Matinagar as a key figure in facilitating the illegal entry of these individuals into India. Despite her attempts to evade arrest, a recent tip-off led to her apprehension.

Das elaborated, stating that Akhter’s alleged role involved aiding Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas in crossing the international border illegally, providing them with shelter and sustenance. With her residence situated in close proximity to the fencing, authorities have begun rigorous interrogation to uncover further details.

This arrest comes in the wake of heightened vigilance by the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station, where over 50 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in recent times. These individuals were reportedly attempting to enter India clandestinely, with destinations spanning Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gujarat, and beyond, in search of employment opportunities.
