Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the scion of Tripura’s royal family and former Chairman of Tipra Motha, emphasized the pivotal role of indigenous communities in India’s development, stating that neglecting them undermines the ethos of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All). Speaking to reporters during an inspection of preparations for an indefinite hunger strike on February 28 at Hatai Kotor, formerly known as Baramura Hills, in West District of Tripura, Debbarma highlighted the importance of inclusivity in government initiatives. “Our community comes first, transcending politics and party affiliations. Benefits extended by the Government of India will not only uplift Tipra Motha but also the indigenous Tiprasa community as a whole,” remarked Pradyot.
He underlined the significance of education and land rights, noting that providing access to education, particularly in the native Kokborok language, and addressing landlessness among the indigenous population would have far-reaching benefits for all. Expressing his unwavering commitment to advocating for indigenous rights, Pradyot asserted, “I will continue to fight for my people until my last breath. My aim is not personal gain but the betterment of our community. Sacrifices are necessary for genuine service to the people.”
Pradyot urged the Government of India to recognize the indispensable role of indigenous communities in national development and provide concrete assurances to address their concerns. “We are not adversaries; we seek equitable inclusion. I have dedicated myself to serving my people, and I urge the government to acknowledge our contributions and provide assurances in writing,” he said.
