Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has urged the Karnataka government and civic authorities to urgently tackle Bengaluru’s deteriorating infrastructure, emphasizing that the city could rank among the best globally if core issues are addressed. In a social media post tagging Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar and the BBMP, Shaw wrote, “Namma Bengaluru has the best talent and the best weather but the worst infrastructure. If we fix garbage, debris, and roads, we can be among the best cities in the world.”
Her comments resonated with many residents who shared their frustration over the city’s declining civic standards. Users pointed to Bengaluru’s crumbling roads, rampant garbage piles, and repeated flooding that tarnish its image as a tech hub. One citizen suggested Shaw rally industry leaders to pressure the government for change, stating, “Country must come before corporate interests.”
Another mentioned that areas like Sarjapur Road near Wipro’s campus flood regularly with minimal rain, despite BBMP inspections. Others stressed the need for improved civic sense and public behavior, along with infrastructure fixes. Many agreed that waste management remains the most critical and immediate challenge for the city.
