Chakraborti steps into the role following the recent resignation of his predecessor, Advocate General Siddharta Shankar Dey. The official appointment, issued by S. Bhattacharya, Secretary of the Law Department, was made under the authority granted by Clause (1) of Article 165 of the Indian Constitution.

“The Governor of Tripura is pleased to appoint Shri Saktimoy Chakraborti, Ld. Senior Advocate, as Advocate General for the State of Tripura with immediate effect and until further orders,” the official statement read. “Chakraborti shall hold the office of the Advocate General during the pleasure of the Governor,” it further stated.

Chakraborti’s terms of service will adhere to the regulations outlined in the state’s existing notifications regarding the position. His appointment marks a significant shift in Tripura’s legal landscape as he assumes the role of the state’s chief legal advisor.
