Tripura CPIM State Committee Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury has claimed that the law and order situation in Tripura has collapsed, and constitutional rights have been paralyzed under BJP rule. His statement followed an incident during a nomination filing rally in the Santchand Rural Development Block, South District, where miscreants allegedly hurled stones at participants.
Chaudhury, who led the rally, alleged that as CPIM workers exited the block office after submitting nominations, a group of BJP-backed miscreants started pelting stones at them in the presence of the police. “No one was injured, but they tried to provoke us. We refrained from retaliating because our main aim was to submit the nominations,” he stated.
He expressed concerns about the safety of CPIM workers and candidates, stating, “We don’t know if our workers and candidates can safely return home. This is how we have been working to restore democracy. The law and order situation has totally collapsed, and constitutional rights are completely paralyzed. A rule of the jungle is prevailing.”
Chaudhury further alleged that BJP workers are preventing other political party workers and candidates from filing nominations, with the police remaining passive. “The police are playing the role of silent spectators. This is how the ruling party is killing democracy step by step. If we don’t come together against this misrule of the BJP, then we will fail to restore law and order and save democracy,” he told reporters.
