Tripura Police seize heroin worth Rs 4 crore, arrest two in Bagbasa

Tripura Police apprehended two individuals and confiscated heroin valued at Rs 4 crore from Bagbasa in the state’s North District late Sunday evening. North District, which borders Assam and Mizoram, became the focal point of the operation based on actionable intelligence, according to North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty. Police intercepted a vehicle lacking a number plate, leading to the discovery of 36 soap boxes containing 408 grams of heroin.

“We detained a vehicle without a number plate in Bagbasa. Upon searching, we found 36 soap boxes containing 408 grams of heroin. We have arrested two individuals identified as Sohel Mia (23) and Dilwar Hossain (35), both residents of Sonamura Sub-division in Tripura’s Sepahijala District. The drugs and the vehicle have been seized,” SP Chakraborty informed reporters.Sepahijala District in Tripura shares a significant international border with Bangladesh, making it a critical area for such operations.

The Superintendent of Police noted that the street value of the seized drugs amounts to Rs 4 crore. “As per their statement, the suspects claimed to have transported the drugs from Silchar in Assam with the intention of smuggling them elsewhere. We are currently investigating the matter,” he added.
