Former Tipra Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has issued a call to all Sixth Schedule district councils in the Northeast to unite in demanding direct funding from the Central Government. Pradyot emphasized the importance of implementing the 125th amendment, which includes provisions for direct funding and an anti-defection law to enhance the autonomy of these councils.”All the Sixth Schedule district councils should meet together and jointly ask the Government of India to implement the 125th amendment. Provision for direct funding and the anti-defection law will make our councils more independent,” Pradyot wrote on social media platform X.

Pradyot shared an update from the Home Ministry regarding the progress on the Tiprasa Accord, an agreement between Tipra Motha and the Government of India. He expressed his intention to involve various stakeholders, including civil society groups, traditional councils, students, and intellectuals, to gather suggestions and advice. “I am keen to involve civil society groups, our traditional council, students, intellectuals, and listen to their suggestions and advice,” he said.

He further expressed hope for the creation of a consultative and advisory group to provide recommendations on cultural, legal, political, and constitutional provisions to strengthen the rights of the people. “We must stand firm,” Pradyot wrote.
