Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, former chairman of Tipra Motha and now a BJP ally, has called on his party workers to persist in their efforts to ensure the implementation of the recent agreement signed with the Centre. Speaking at a party event at Agartala Town Hall on Wednesday, Pradyot emphasized the importance of translating agreements into action, citing past failures. Pradyot, a royal scion, reminded attendees of historical accords that were never fully realized, such as the Instrument of Merger in 1949, the TNV Accord in 1988, and the ATTF Accord. He stressed that previous agreements, including those involving the BJP’s ally IPFT, failed to protect the rights and lands of the Tiprasa people, making them a minority in their own state.

“Many agreements have been signed, but the real challenge is ensuring their implementation. Our agreement with the Government of India is for the benefit of the Tiprasa, and we must fight to make it a reality,” Pradyot stated. Addressing the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Pradyot highlighted his proactive stance. “While others remained silent, I challenged the CAA in the Supreme Court. We must revoke this bill, and only the apex court can do this,” he asserted.

Pradyot contrasted his position with that of the CPIM, declaring, “My stance is clear: illegal immigrants in Tripura cannot be resettled here. We have already given land to many, but we will not allow further settlements. Our fight is for our people’s rights, not against any community.”
