Agartala witnessed a wave of disciplinary action as the electoral fervor gripped the region during the ongoing parliamentary constituency election in Tripura East (ST) area. In a decisive move, three government officials have faced temporary suspension for contravening the election model code of conduct. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office issued a press statement confirming the suspension of three additional government employees on similar grounds, signaling a stern stance against any violations during the electoral process.
Among the suspended individuals, Prabajika Roy, a graduate teacher stationed at Kulai SB School in Ambassa, Dhalai District, found herself in the spotlight. Despite her role as the First Polling Officer for polling in 46-Surma (SC) Assembly Constituency, Roy breached protocol by engaging with the media under the guise of representing a political party’s leadership. Consequently, based on the recommendation of the Returning Officer of 2-Tripura East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, Roy has been temporarily relieved of her duties.
In addition to Roy’s suspension, Sameer Ranjan Deb, a post-graduate teacher at Bishalgarh English Medium Class XII School, and Rifleman (GD) Subhankar Debroy of the 10th Battalion of TSR, faced similar repercussions for their violations of the election code of conduct. The AIGP of Police Headquarters, acting on an order signed by the Secondary Education department, ordered their suspensions, underscoring the zero-tolerance policy toward any infractions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
