Jitendra Chaudhury, the Tripura CPIM state committee secretary, called upon the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday, urging for measures to ensure the Lok Sabha elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.Chaudhury, also a CPIM legislator, penned a letter to the ECI, seeking intervention to safeguard the democratic rights of the people ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The letter highlighted an incident on March 8th, where Biplab Kumar Deb, the declared BJP candidate from 1-Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency, allegedly directed his followers during a BJP event to limit opposition votes in both individual Assembly segments and overall, eliciting applause from the audience.

Furthermore, Chaudhury alleged that on March 9th, BJP Yuba Morcha workers reportedly broke into a CPI(M) office in Takarjala Mandal, West Tripura, hoisting BJP flags and occupying the space for election purposes. The CPIM leader expressed concerns that failure to address such provocations could lead to chaotic electoral conditions in the state.

In the letter, Chaudhury appealed to the ECI to take proactive preventive measures to ensure the conduct of the elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, thereby addressing the apprehensions of opposition parties and democratic-minded individuals in Tripura.
