Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Thursday inaugurated a National Seminar titled “Pressing Women’s Issues, Mental Well-Being and Empowerment: The Way Forward”, at Rabindra Hall of Maharaja Bir Bikram College in Agartala.
Addressing the seminar, the Governor said women are not merely beneficiaries of the schemes of the Central and State Governments, but also active partners in the development process.
The seminar was organised with the support of the Prime Minister’s Higher Education Campaign.
“Women are the foundation of a family, and therefore ensuring their safety and dignity in workplaces is extremely important,” he said.
The Governor emphasised the need to create a healthy and respectful working environment, saying that discrimination against women in workplaces must be eliminated.
He further said that both child marriage and over-age marriage are harmful to society and awareness must be created to prevent such practices.
Among others present at the two-day seminar were Higher Education Department Director Animesh Debbarma; MBB University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Biswajit De and College Principal Arjun Ghosh.
Prizes were also distributed among the winners of a poster competition organised as part of the seminar.
