Research and Innovation Key to National Development: Vice President at Tripura Varsity Convocation

Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 14th convocation of Tripura University in Agartala on Sunday and appealed to the students to continue undertaking research asserting that it should culminate with innovation for national development. Radhakrishnan further urged students to make optimum utilization of their time and devote maximum of it in taking education. He said that the present generation is going through a historic moment where the country is making rapid progress in all spheres to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Vice President further urged students to distance themselves from drugs and even help their peers to not indulge in drugs.

Saying that technology has become a game changer, he added that it should be used in a positive way. “Success is achieved by those who relentlessly persevere and are patient in their efforts,” the Vice President said. Referring to the initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the northeastern region has witnessed significant development in the past decade, especially in rail and air connectivity. He also noted that Tripura University has emerged as a vibrant center of teaching and research innovation.

Earlier in the day, the Vice President visited the Mata Tripura Sundari temple at Udaipur in Gomati district where he offered prayers. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, while speaking on the occasion, hailed the immense role of the Tripura University from its academic perspective to attract students and researchers not just from the state and Northeast but other parts of the country as well through its vibrant academic culture and emerging as a cosmopolitan and multicultural educational hub. Saha said the state government is committed to establishing more universities in Tripura and strengthening higher education while linking education with employment opportunities.

Underscoring that access to higher education will open doors of opportunity for generations to come, the Chief Minister recalled that since its inception Tripura University has played a transformative role in shaping the intellectual and human resource development of the state. He said the university has stood as an intellectual lighthouse of the state. The Chief Minister also extended greetings to the women folk on International Women’s Day celebrated across the globe today. Speaking on the occasion, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu said a developed India cannot be built unless the indigenous knowledge system was integrated with modern science and technology.
