Security has been significantly intensified across Agartala ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, with authorities imposing road restrictions and deploying additional personnel to ensure smooth conduct of high-profile events.
According to officials, key locations across the Tripura capital have been placed under heavy security cover. The minister is scheduled to attend the Joint Regional Official Language Conference for the Northern and Eastern Regions on February 20 and will stay overnight in the city. During his visit, he is also expected to meet Chief Minister Manik Saha, senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and representatives of its allies, including the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tipra Motha Party.
A senior Tripura government official stated that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure comprehensive security coverage and effective interdepartmental coordination. “The focus is on seamless execution of the visit with no disruption to public safety,” the official said.
In preparation, an Advanced Security Liaison meeting was held on February 18 at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and the Hapania International Fair Ground. The meeting was attended by top administrative and police officials, including West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Additional SP Dhruv Nath, SDPO Parmita Pandey, and Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, along with representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials reviewed route security, venue protection measures, traffic diversion strategies, and emergency response protocols. Authorities have also planned temporary traffic restrictions in certain areas to facilitate smooth movement of the minister’s convoy.
The heightened security presence reflects the importance of the visit and the high-profile nature of the scheduled engagements. Administrators have assured residents that while precautionary measures are in place, efforts are being made to minimize inconvenience to the public.
With coordinated planning and extensive deployment, the administration aims to ensure a secure and orderly visit as Agartala hosts one of the country’s top political leaders.
