Two security personnel sustained injuries in Tripura’s Sepahijala district following an altercation with suspected ganja cultivators, who allegedly threw stones during an operation aimed at eradicating ganja plantations. Law enforcement has intensified efforts to dismantle ganja cultivation across various forest regions in the district since January. On Monday, a coordinated operation involving police, Assam Rifles, and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel targeted North Kalamchoura within the jurisdiction of the Kalamchoura police station. The operation faced aggression from the cultivators, prompting Assam Rifles troops to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the attackers. Despite restoring temporary order, the suspected cultivators regrouped on nearby village roads to impede further operational efforts. A police official indicated that stringent measures will be enacted against those responsible for the assault on security forces, and investigations are currently progressing to identify the primary instigators of the violent confrontation.
