Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the residence of late Anjel Chakma at Debram Thakur Para in Nandan Nagar, Agartala on Wednesday, and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
The Chief Minister assured the deceased student’s family that proper steps would be taken to ensure a fair and thorough investigation into the incident.
He informed that he would raise the matter with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand during his visit to Delhi on January 19 to ensure the investigation is expedited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a meeting of Chief Ministers in Delhi on January 19 and 20.
Saha stated that he would take the opportunity to discuss the issue with his Uttarakhand counterpart during the meeting.
It may be mentioned that Anjel Chakma, an MBA student from Tripura, who was studying in Uttarakhand was attacked by a mob on December 9, 2025.
After battling for life in critical condition for 17 days at a hospital in Dehradun, Anjel succumbed to his injuries on December 26.
The Tripura youth’s death had sparked unrest across the Northeast, with several groups, political parties and students unions demanding a fast-track probe into the incident.
