Tripura BJP Leader: Pradyot “Uses” Regional Front To Regain Political Relevance

Estimated read time 1 min read

Rebati Tripura, a former MP and BJP leader, has accused Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha party, of attempting to regain political relevance through the new “One North East” regional front. Tripura warned that this initiative could mislead voters during a period of relative peace in Tripura, suggesting it reflects an “existential crisis” in Debbarma’s political approach, particularly as it involves leaders from unsuccessful regional parties. He criticized Debbarma’s recent speeches as “provocative and contradictory,” cautioning that his resurgence of confidence could be harmful by reopening past political divisions. Furthermore, he pointed out Debbarma’s shift away from previous demands for Tipraland and Greater Tipraland, labeling the new campaign a “distraction.” Tripura expressed concerns over Debbarma’s inconsistent political positions over the years, asserting that current proposals for a separate state or special provisions for tribal areas in Tripura are impractical. Additionally, he called for a financial audit of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, alleging financial mismanagement and a failure to adhere to constitutional norms, emphasizing that the council operates primarily on paper without real development.
