Amid rising trade tensions and tariff uncertainties in the US, major American tech firms like Google, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI are significantly increasing their presence in India. From large-scale office leases in cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru to setting up new engineering hubs and forging AI collaborations, India is emerging as a vital part of their global strategies.

According to TV Mohandas Pai, former Infosys board member and investor, US firms are facing talent shortages at home and turning to India to meet their innovation needs and accelerate development. India has around 7.5 million software engineers, surpassing the US’s six million, and nearly half of revenue for many of these companies comes from outside the US.

Despite evolving trade policies, companies remain focused on maintaining competitiveness through faster innovation and cost-effective product development, said Namita Adavi, Partner at Zinnov. In 2025, Big Tech’s India investments include major office spaces and multi-billion-dollar commitments.

Pai highlighted that India’s IT firms have strong training infrastructure and can handle high attrition levels, allowing Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to absorb talent efficiently. He also noted India’s unique ability to scale quality talent outside China and its strong potential in AI implementation.
