The Department of Fisheries organized a special program in Muktadhara to give fish producers in the West Tripura area financial support. “Today, on behalf of the Fisheries Department, we organized a program to provide financial assistance to all the fish farmers of West Tripura district,” State Minister Sudhangshu Das told ANI on Saturday. “Floods have caused significant losses for numerous fish producers throughout the years. This year, we are continue to help them, just as we did last year. We disbursed Rs 1.2 crore to the impacted fish farmers today out of the Rs 17 crore that has been approved. Depending on the size of their losses, some farmers received Rs 8,000, Rs 7,000, and Rs 10,000 in compensation, which was provided on a per-hectare basis. We gave the farmers the checks in person. In addition, we gave numerous farmers checks totaling Rs 50,000, ice boxes, and fishing nets,” he continued. “Because of the substantial amount of fish consumed in Tripura, there is a huge demand for seafood. More people should step out and start fish farming, in my opinion.” The minister went on to say that the government is providing assistance in a number of ways and that the purpose of today’s session was to encourage and uplift fish producers.
Tripura has one of the highest rates of fish consumption in the nation, officials emphasized, and the government is enticing more people to start fish farms in order to fulfill the rising demand. In addition to offering financial assistance, the program sought to encourage and inspire farmers to resume fish farming with newfound vigor.
