Police and other security services have been instructed to take strong action against anyone involved in drug smuggling, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Saturday, announcing the implementation of a “zero-tolerance policy” in the fight against drugs. The Chief Minister was speaking following the opening of an Aurobindo Sangha-organized voluntary blood donation camp on the grounds of AD Nagar Higher Secondary School in Agartala. He claimed that drug use in Tripura is associated with a number of issues. “Girls are developing drug addictions just like boys do. This is something that the state administration is still fighting. Operations against drugs are being carried out by the police and other security services. They are trying to apprehend the drug lord. He stated that the police and other law enforcement authorities have been directed to prevent the release of anyone connected to drug use.
“In the battle against narcotics, a zero-tolerance strategy has been implemented. That’s how the work is being done. Compared to the previous year, the quantity of drugs destroyed has increased by 132%. There has been a 104% increase in narcotics seizures. Additionally, parents ought to be more watchful and knowledgeable about drugs. We are working to advance in the same manner as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the nation,” he stated. As the climate produced by the efforts and policies of the Communists and Congress over the last 35 years, combined with another five years, cannot be undone, the Chief Minister stated that everything cannot be resolved in a single day. “A lot of time is required. Nevertheless, our goal is to create a stunning state. In terms of the economy, India is currently ranked fourth, up from 11th previously. In terms of GSDP and per capita income, Tripura ranks second among the states in the Northeast,” he continued.
