Tripura Almost Cut Off From Rest Of India As Landslides & Poor Highway Conditions Cripple Connectivity

Estimated read time 1 min read

Tripura is grappling with a severe connectivity crisis as heavy rains have triggered multiple landslides, rendering key stretches of the National Highway between Churaibari and Agartala—particularly across Longtharai and Atharamura Hills—nearly impassable. Debris and mudflows have brought traffic to a standstill, effectively cutting off the state. Despite the urgency, restoration efforts are reportedly moving at a sluggish pace, sparking concern among commuters and transporters.

Other routes, including the newly built Kamalpur–Agartala road via Khowai and those in the Jampui Hills, are also deteriorating rapidly. Locals allege poor construction quality and negligence by external contractors, blaming the State Government and NHAI for lack of monitoring. Standard protocols—like signage with project details—are allegedly ignored.

Frustrated citizens report an absence of grievance redressal mechanisms, leaving them without recourse. With Tripura’s critical road links failing and no quick solutions in sight, public outcry is growing over accountability, safety, and the urgent need for responsible infrastructure development.
