Residents of Bamutia market area have lodged a serious complaint with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, accusing a local man of impersonating police and BSF personnel to run an illegal drug trade and assist undocumented Bangladeshis in obtaining fake Indian identity documents.
The complaint, signed by 21 individuals including Deepak Bhowmik, Narayan Roy, and Sameer Das, was submitted during an event at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School. Copies were also sent to the Mohanpur SDM, Lefunga Police Station, and other officials. Yet, two days later, no action has been taken against the accused, Arup Dhar.
Residents allege that Dhar frequently claims to be with the police, BSF, or Crime Branch, and operates with unregistered phones and a network of 7–8 people. His close aides include Sahem Miah of Nandan Nagar and Liton Miah of Nilam Bazar, Silchar. Despite serious allegations, including earlier ones by Speaker Ram Prasad Pal against BJP leader Ratan Das, police action remains absent, raising questions about the state’s “zero tolerance” policy on drugs.
