Despite Major Infrastructure Push, Concerns Mount Over Neglected Nagichara Road

Estimated read time 1 min read

Despite the Tripura government’s emphasis on infrastructure development, concerns are growing over uneven implementation, especially in tribal-dominated areas. Opposition parties, including Congress, CPI(M), and regional TIPRA Motha, argue that tribal belts remain neglected. While Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced a Rs. 7,000 crore infrastructure budget and highlighted Tripura’s 10,618 km road network, critics point to gaps in execution. Plans include expanding 923 km of National Highways, introducing 229 km of new NH stretches, and constructing flyovers and bypasses under projects like Bharatmala and the proposed 449-km Ring Road around Agartala.

Yet, areas like the Agartala-Jampuijala route via College Tilla, Nagicherra, and Gabordi remain poorly maintained despite their importance. This road connects key facilities such as the Nagicherra fish market, a rubber wood factory, and educational institutions, but lacks necessary upgrades. Residents question the Public Works Department’s priorities, citing a pattern of neglect in tribal and semi-urban zones. Citizens are calling for more inclusive, ground-level development across all regions.
