Five Bangladeshi nationals were detained early Thursday for allegedly crossing into India illegally near the Madhupur area in Tripura’s Sepahijala district. The Madhupur Police acted on a tip-off and, with help from local villagers, apprehended the group close to the India-Bangladesh border, said Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee.
“In the wee hours today, acting on a credible input and with the assistance of local villagers, we apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals near a village close to the India-Bangladesh border. They were brought to the police station for questioning. A case has been registered, and they will be produced before the court,” he added.
All five detainees belong to the same family from the Kurigram district in Bangladesh. The group consists of three men—Manir Khan, Swadhin Khan, and Shahjala Khan—and two women, Saheba Khatun and Dulali Khatun. During initial questioning, Shahjala Khan reportedly admitted that someone helped them cross the border and that they were heading to Delhi. Authorities are investigating to identify the individual who facilitated the illegal entry and to gather more details about the case.
