Victims of traffic accidents nationwide will have access to a cashless treatment program that will allow them to get up to Rs 1.5 lakh per accident per person. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways published a notice in the gazette stating that the plan went into effect on May 5, 2025. The program’s implementing agency will be the National Health Authority (NHA), working in tandem with state health agencies, hospitals, and law enforcement. The notification states that treatment provided under the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025, at a hospital other than a designated facility must be confined to stabilisation and follow the parameters.

According to the notification, the State Road Safety Council will serve as the nodal agency for the scheme’s implementation in that state or Union Territory. It will also be in charge of working with the National Health Authority to adopt and use the portal for victim treatment, onboarding of designated hospitals, payment to the designated hospital for treatment, and other related matters. Additionally, the notification stated that a steering committee will be established by the central government to oversee the scheme’s execution. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) began a trial initiative on March 14, 2024, to offer cashless medical care to victims of traffic accidents.
