By 2026, Shillong Airport might be able to accommodate bigger planes, which would be a big step towards improving connectivity and Meghalaya’s development. Sniawbhalang Dhar, the deputy chief minister and minister of transportation, declared that construction on the Shillong Airport would soon start. He told reporters that a tender for the project has already been issued by the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The airport’s infrastructure will be upgraded, passenger handling capacity will be increased, and larger aircraft operations will be made possible under the Rs 119 crore tender.
Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, has previously called the project a “game changer” for the area, emphasizing its potential to boost accessibility, boost tourism, and stimulate economic growth. The rebuilt airport is anticipated to improve integration with major cities throughout the nation and greatly strengthen Meghalaya’s aviation network once it is finished.
