Tribal welfare and general development will receive a significant amount of the budget from the BJP-led state government, according to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha’s announcement. “Of Tripura’s revised budget of Rs 30,296 crore for 2024-25, a total of Rs 6,645 crore—39 per cent—has been allocated for the welfare of indigenous people after meeting the state’s non-plan expenditure,” Saha said during the budget debate. He went on to say that the state had Rs 17,014 crore left over for the current fiscal year after paying non-plan expenses.
According to him, the budget for tribal care in 2025–2026 will total Rs 7,149 crore, or more over 40% of the Rs 32,423 crore total budget. Assuring that tribal uplift continues to be a top priority, he continued, “In addition, a number of externally aided schemes are being implemented in tribal areas for their overall development.” “This budget has touched almost all sectors—healthcare, education, women empowerment, social welfare, and infrastructure,” Saha remarked, characterizing the spending plan as “people-centric.”
Tripura’s economic progress is evident in development spending, with a projected increase from Rs 13,771 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 18,012 crore in 2025-26. Capital expenditure has been earmarked for infrastructure development. GST collection has increased by 9.10% in 2025, making it the second-highest in the northeastern region. The 16th Finance Commission has praised Tripura’s prudent fiscal management.
