The External Affairs Ministry stated in a statement that the Government of India had rescued 266 more Indian citizens who had been duped by false employment offers in Thailand and Myanmar after 283 Indians who had been enticed into Myanmar with false work promises were repatriated.”(The) Indian government made arrangements for 266 Indians who were freed from cybercrime hotspots in South East Asia to be safely repatriated yesterday on an IAF aircraft. 283 Indians were repatriated in a same manner on Monday. Along with images of the returning Indians, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, “(The) Indian embassies worked with Myanmar and Thailand governments to secure their release and facilitate their repatriation.”
The government claimed in a statement on Monday that these Indian nationals were tricked into participating in “cybercrime and engage in other fraudulent activities in scam centers operating in regions along the Myanmar-Thailand border” after being enticed with false job promises. Together with the local government, Indian embassies in Thailand and Myanmar arranged for an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane from Mae Sot in Thailand to repatriate the Indian citizens on March 10. According to the government, India has been working tirelessly to achieve the release and repatriation of its citizens who were tricked into traveling to Myanmar and other Southeast Asian nations with false job offers.
