Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Tripura Asset hopes to enhance natural gas production to a record 4 million metric standard cubic meters per day within the following year. This attempt is being made to accommodate the region’s growing demand for natural gas, an official release said. Three significant power-generating firms in Tripura, notably the OTPC plant located in the Gomati district, rely on the 3.5 MMSCMD of natural gas produced by ONGC. In addition to operating 95 gas-producing wells, the ONGC Tripura Asset typically explores 17 to 18 wells annually for new reserves.
According to Sharan, the northeast’s success rate for gas exploration is about 50%, which is comparable to the national average. Seven drilling rigs have been set up for gas exploration in an effort to boost output. He promised that the gas supply to the 726 MW power plant has been boosted and allayed concerns about the decreased gas supply to the OTPC-operated Palatana gas-based power plant. However, the plant’s electricity generation has decreased from 726 MW to 400 MW due to operational issues.
However, the facility continues to export 100 MW of electricity to Bangladesh. He also gave us an update on Indra Dhanush Gas Grid’s (IGG) Ltd. efforts to improve gas connectivity in the northeast. By September of next year, he predicted, the state would have a strong grid connection. By ensuring a natural gas supply for numerous industries in the area, the increase in gas production that is anticipated through IGGL and improved connectivity will greatly increase Tripura’s energy security and spur industrial expansion in the state.
