Assam Rifles intercepted a consignment of heroin valued at Rs 39.75 lakh in Champhai

Assam Rifles, along with the Zokhawthar Police Department, have intercepted a shipment of heroin worth Rs 39.75 lakh in a major anti-drug operation. The operation took place at the General Area Crossing Point III (Laipian Kai) in Zokhawthar, Champhai district, on January 25, 2025. Authorities detained a female suspect who was reportedly involved in the illegal transaction during the raid. The seizure demonstrates the security forces’ continued efforts to reduce the drug problem in the area. Investigations are still under progress.

The Excise and Narcotics Department, along with the Assam Rifles, recovered 5.73 kilos (440 soap boxes) of heroin at Chhungte hamlet in Champhai District on the evening of January 25 in Mizoram, marking a big drug seizure. Two people were arrested as a result of the operation: Lalawmpuia (29), from Aizawl’s Zemabawk (Beraw), and Gilbert Lalnunhlima (27), who lived in Bairabi (Rail crossing). Additionally, a TATA 1618 C truck registered under MZ01F-9135 that was utilized to carry the contraband was seized by the authorities. Furthermore, 23.600 grams of heroin were seized from Rorelkima (27), a resident of Vanhne village in Lunglei District, as a result of a different operation. Rorelkima was also caught, as was an unlicensed Maruti Alto K-10 that was used to transport the drugs.
