Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, opened the “Conclave on Dialogue for Holistic Development of Livestock Sectors in the North-East Region” in Shillong. Key government members, ministers from the Northeastern states, business leaders, and other interested parties attended the occasion. The Union Minister unveiled a number of significant initiatives during the summit, including 15 Entrepreneurship Development Projects under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) valued at Rs. 10.93 crore.
Additionally, he declared that a Goat Semen Bank and a Regional Semen Production Laboratory would be established in Khanapara with an investment of Rs. 337.29 lakh. With investments of Rs. 31.86 lakh and Rs. 10.23 crore, respectively, he launched an Intensive Cattle Development Project and a Multiplier Pig Farm for Meghalaya. Additionally, a brand-new Khasi-language poultry song was released to encourage poultry rearing. Minister Singh talked on the difficulties the North-East animal industry has, including poor infrastructure and communication breakdowns, especially in the production of feed, poultry, and pigs.
In order to solve these problems and advance sustainable growth, he underlined the necessity of public-private partnerships. Additionally, the minister presented plans to invest Rs. 250 crore to onboard 70,000 additional farmers into the cooperative network and expand dairy infrastructure. The colloquium opened the door for new investments and development by giving scientists, legislators, and business executives a forum to discuss how the cattle industry in the area should develop going forward.
