14 journalists from Northeast India will travel to Prayagraj for a three-day media tour from January 21 to 23 to cover the Maha Kumbh 2025. Coordinated by the Uttar Pradesh government and the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the tour is to give reporters a chance to record and disseminate information from one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world. The delegation comprises journalists from leading media outlets in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Through their coverage, viewers in the Northeast and beyond will learn about the Maha Kumbh’s cultural and spiritual significance. The Maha Kumbh has profound mythical significance and is set to take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025. The ceremony is said to have its roots in the Samudra Manthan, or the churning of the ocean, which caused drops of nectar to fall at four different places: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik.
Taking a sacred bath during the Kumbh is considered a means of purification and spiritual enlightenment. Over 45 crore people are anticipated to participate this year, including about 15 lakh foreign guests, which is a significant rise from the 25 crore people who attended in 2019. The tour’s journalists will watch and document how the event promotes harmony among castes, religions, and cultures while highlighting India’s rich history and customs.
