Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the Ministry of Power, has launched the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) in Tripura, distributing 2,000 induction cooktops to Anganwadi Centres. The initiative, supported by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), aims to boost energy efficiency and transition households to clean electric cooking.
Induction cooktops, offering a 25-30% cost advantage over traditional methods, mark a significant step toward reducing health hazards and environmental impact. The launch event witnessed participation from key officials, including Tripura Power Minister Shri Ratan Lal Nath and EESL CEO Shri Vishal Kapoor, emphasizing the program’s role in fostering sustainable cooking solutions.
Agartala is expected to benefit significantly, with rising consumer interest in energy-efficient appliances likely to increase demand for electric cooking devices. Local retailers anticipate higher sales of induction cooktops and related products, presenting a growth opportunity for businesses in the region.
EESL plans to deploy 20 lakh induction cooktops nationwide, aiming to promote eco-friendly cooking practices and reduce reliance on biomass. Partnering with Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS), EESL is driving a cleaner, greener future for Indian households.
