Jitendra Chaudhury, leader of the opposition in Tripura Assembly, claimed on Thursday that a section of BJP leaders is attempting to unseat Chief Minister Manik Saha. Chaudhury, who is also the CPI(M) state secretary, stressed that while his party is not demanding Saha’s resignation, it is important for the Chief Minister to address internal challenges within his party.

“Your vision of making Tripura crime-free will remain a dream unless you control your own members involved in criminal activities. The people of Tripura won’t forgive you if you fail in your responsibilities,” Chaudhury remarked, referring to recent incidents of crime, including a murder in Agartala and a custodial death in Sabroom.

In response, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty dismissed the claims, accusing the CPI(M) of trying to mislead the public. “Manik Saha will complete his full tenure as Chief Minister, and the BJP is firmly united,” Chakraborty said, adding that the BJP will return to power in 2028.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha cited incidents of ethnic clashes and custodial deaths, calling for the Chief Minister’s resignation and threatening state-wide agitation from October 21.
