An investigation team went to the suspected drone bombing site in Manipur’s Imphal West district. On Wednesday, the group went to the spot. Since the matter was legally passed to the National Investigating Agency, a combined team from the Manipur police and the NIA performed an on-site investigation in the first instance. Ngangbam Surbala, a woman, died as a result of an alleged attack on September 1 in the Koutruk hamlet in the Imphal West area by suspected Kuki militants. In the incident, her daughter also sustained injuries. Numerous vehicles as well as public property were damaged in the attack.
The investigation was initiated by the Imphal West Police but was recently taken over by the National Investigating Agency. Later, when questions arose about the state government’s handling of the probe, the records and evidence were turned over to the National Investigating Agency. Recently, a group of elected Manipur Assembly members representing the Meitei, Naga, and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities in the state of Manipur convened in New Delhi on Tuesday to talk about the state’s current situation. The assembly of Manipur’s elected representatives decided in unanimity to urge the state’s population, from all communities, to turn away from violence in order to prevent the loss of any more innocent lives in the days to come.
