In a concerning development, 36 cases of dengue was reported in Manipur’s Churachandpur in the month of October (1-14), pushing this year’s tally for the district to 79. Thirteen locations, some in the suburbs and some in the city center, were found to have dengue cases. On Monday, a large number of suspicious cases were reported, and the samples have been sent for analysis. The scenario in the volatile district may be concerning if the test results come back positive.

The Churachandpur district’s Malaria Department heavily fogged areas with high dengue case concentrations, such as Chengkonpang, Zenhang Lamka, Tuibong, and Kamdou, in response to the spike in dengue cases. Experts say that whereas malaria-carrying mosquitoes are more active from June to December, dengue-causing insects are primarily active from January to June. The district malaria officer, Dr. Liangoumuan Samte, oversaw and directed the dengue containment flight.
