Manipur police seize a live tear gas shell and arrest two people during protests in thoubal

Manipur Police arrested two persons suspected to be involved in protests happening in the Thoubal district. On September 11, under the jurisdiction of the Porompat officers Station in the Imphal East District, officers detained them in the vicinity of Sanjenthong, following a particular tip. Laishram Roshan Singh (age 26) of Khangabok Tangkha Leikai and Moirangthem Bumbum Singh (age 21) of Khangabok Meisnam Leikai are the individuals who have been detained. Along with them was a live tear gas shell. Police carried out search-cum-area dominance in Churachandpur district’s weak spots, particularly at Shejang, as part of another operation. A 7.5-foot rocket, a modified M-16 rifle, a large homemade mortar, a medium-sized homemade mortar, three medium bomb launchers, four additional bomb launchers, and three homemade mortar bombs were among the weapons they found during this time.

To guarantee that the cars moved smoothly, security convoys were stationed on key locations and vulnerable places were subjected to strict security vigils. A total of 110 checkpoints were erected in Manipur’s districts, encompassing both hill and valley regions, and five individuals were taken into custody on a variety of accusations. Two days after its Home Department blocked mobile and broadband internet for five days due to student protests sparked by a slew of violent occurrences, the Manipur government restored broadband and fixed lease line internet access in the valley districts on Thursday. Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar additionally set ten requirements in an order for using broadband and fixed lease line connections for internet access.

According to the statement, the state government has chosen to keep the mobile internet service suspended because of ongoing concerns about the spread of false information and rumors via social media platforms, which could incite a mob of agitators and demonstrators and result in fatalities or property damage from acts of arson, vandalism, and other violent crimes for which there is currently insufficient oversight.
