The Department of Telecommunications is leaving no stone unturned to restore phone and internet services in the flood-hit state of Tripura. In spite of all the odds, networks including as Vodafone, Reliance Jio, Airtel, and BSNL have restored almost 94% of service. Communication has been restored, which has been of great assistance to rescue crews, government authorities, and the general people during this ongoing crisis. Particularly from August 19 to August 23, the state of Tripura experienced torrential rains that had never before occurred, wreaking havoc. There was never before witnessed floods and widespread inconvenience due to a deluge.
Massive service disruptions and significant damage to telecom infrastructure were caused by the floods. TSPs and the Department of Telecommunications intervened to guarantee that connectivity was immediately restored. With cooperation from the telecom providers and its section of the North East LSAs, the DoT has been keeping a careful eye on it. More importantly, in order to restore the network early, the local DoT team in Tripura coordinated with the State Administration, the State Disaster Management unit, and the telecom providers.
Furthermore, the Intra-Circle Roaming was launched in Tripura from August 22-27, 2024, in which customers could get connected to any available telecom network despite their own service provider. communication equipment in those areas was destroyed, but since then, it has been replaced by the concerned telecom service providers so that the residents as well as the rescue teams stay communicated.
It granted a 4-day extension to the validity of the prepaid plan to all of its clients whose active plans expired within the last few days or were due later. It extended the 1.5GB of free mobile internet per day and the unlimited calling option to their clients who were unable to recharge their prepaid connections in time by four days. Additionally, a 30-day bill payment extension is valid in this case for post-paid connections to all consumers across all networks. They have grown to be of great significance in supporting the rescue effort as well as the struggling citizens of Tripura during this trying time.
