Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar have been one of the most iconic couples of Bollywood. Even today, years after the legendary actor’s demise, his wife Saira Bau remembers the great actor Dilip Sahab and shares lovely anecdotes from his life. Recently, he did the same again when he penned a heartfelt note in which he thanked everyone for taking care of him and then prayed for Dilip saab’s well-being.
Sharing a series of pictures and a letter, Saira Banu penned a long note talking about late Dilip Kumar. He revealed that he was quite a loving husband and had even given Saira a cute nickname. She wrote that, “I am expressing my love by inscription this note to thank all his fans, well-wishers, dearest friends and family who take the difficulty to send us lovely messages on event. I am glad that they all remember our important dates and pray for their well-being after that because Dilip Sahab is an inspiration to six generations of actors as well as the generations to come.
The note further reads, “Saheb has been the best friend of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Sahab, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sahab, Narasimha Rao Sahab as well as prominent lawyers, economists and industrialists etc. A staunch supporter of the players. He played football and cricket very easily. In fact, he wanted to be a player at the national level rather than follow what destiny had in store for him.
You see, Saheb was the greatest actor of all time. He had everything available, yet many people did not know that he suffered from severe insomnia. Before our marriage, even after taking pills, he would stay awake till morning. However, once we got married and became indispensable to each other, he started going to sleep on time. He even gave me a cute nickname, lovingly saying, “Saira, you are my sleeping pill, you are my pillow.” Remembering the charm with which he used to state this, I laugh even today.
“Another memorable incident was when he writes me a note. He was very fond of music and would often have a full court in our house, witnessing the magic created by the artistes. The Sahib, so efficiently, would often leave the court to get some sleep. On one such evening, despite escaping into hiding, he found himself unable to sleep without me.
So, he wrote a note, “Feeling sluggish, what do you suggest, aunty? …your 100%”. Yet, beneath the banter, the laughter, and those heartfelt notes, was pure love. Dilip Sahab is forever…May Allah continue to shower his love and blessings on him…Amen,” the note ended.
Many celebrities and fans also reacted to the note, with Richa Chadha leaving a heart emoji, while other fans described the post as pure.
