Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), commenced a five-day visit to Tripura on Thursday, where he is participating in a training programme for RSS cadres and karyakartas from the eight states in the northeast region. Sources within the RSS revealed that Bhagwat will be staying at Seva Dham in Khayerpur on the outskirts of Agartala, where the training programme is being conducted. The 20-day training initiative, inaugurated at the Seva Dham, Tripura’s RSS headquarters, on May 18, is under the guidance of Sanghchalak of Northeast Zone, Umesh Chakraborty.
“In total, 152 trainees, 30 teachers, and 40 karyakartas (functionaries) from eight northeastern states are participating in the training programme,” stated an RSS functionary to IANS. Additionally, it was noted that 14 such training camps are scheduled across the country in the upcoming months, which Bhagwat and RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale are expected to attend. Political analysts perceive Bhagwat’s visit to the northeastern state, ahead of the Lok Sabha vote counting on June 4, as significant due to the RSS’s expanding presence in the region. Security has been heightened in the Khayerpur Seva Dham areas in west Tripura in light of the RSS chief’s visit.
Last year, Mohan Bhagwat embarked on a three-day tour of the Northeast region. During his visit, he engaged with Swayamsevaks and addressed participants of the Sangh Shiksha Varg (2nd year). One such training camp was held in Hojai district, Assam, commencing on July 12 and concluding on August 1.
