In anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election counting scheduled for June 4th, a robust three-layer security apparatus has been implemented across seven strategic locations to safeguard the strong rooms containing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) within the West parliamentary constituency. The electoral battle in the West Parliamentary Constituency, featuring candidates such as Biplab Kumar Deb from the BJP, Asish Kumar Saha representing Congress, and the INDI bloc, unfolded on April 19th.
Vishal Kumar, the Returning Officer, elucidated the electoral landscape, stating that the West Parliamentary Constituency encompasses 14 Assembly segments in West, 9 in Sepahijala, 4 in Gomati, and 3 in South District. “There are a total of 7 designated locations for vote counting in the West parliamentary constituency,” Kumar explained. These include Sonamura in Sepahijala District, Bishlagarh sub-division, Jampuijala sub-division, Udaipur sub-division, Shantirbazar, Belonia, and Umakanta Academy. Each location corresponds to specific Assembly segments for streamlined counting procedures.
To fortify the security apparatus, a triple-layer security framework has been established, comprising Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and Tripura Police personnel. The entire strong room area is under constant CCTV surveillance, with backup power systems in place. Additionally, four gazetted officers oversee operations, while political party agents are granted access to inspect EVMs and postal ballots.”We are closely monitoring the situation with over 70 surveillance cameras installed,” Kumar affirmed, expressing optimism for a peaceful and orderly counting process.
