In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal, Jitendra Chaudhury, the Secretary of Tripura CPIM state committee and Leader of Opposition, raised concerns over the purported politicization of government schemes by the ruling BJP in Tripura. Chaudhury highlighted instances where Bakul Debi Debnath, the BAC Chairperson of Hrishyamukh R.D. Block, in collaboration with local BJP leaders, allegedly distributed mosquito nets among beneficiaries across various Gram Panchayats.
He accused Debnath and BJP leaders of openly canvassing for the BJP while distributing these essentials, which he deemed a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Pointing out that the mosquito nets were procured by the Block Authority over a month ago to combat malaria, Chaudhury criticized the timing of their distribution, suggesting that it was deliberately delayed to reap political benefits for the ruling party. He emphasized that such actions undermine the fairness of electoral norms and betray a disregard for democratic principles.
Calling for immediate intervention to halt the politicization of government schemes for political gain, Chaudhury urged the CEO to take appropriate action against Debnath and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines. He expressed dismay at the apparent oversight by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Hrishyamukh Block, questioning how such activities were allowed to transpire under the purview of the Model Code of Conduct.
