In a significant operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, Tripura Police apprehended an individual and seized cannabis valued at Rs 1.5 crore from the Baspukur area in Sepahijala district. Sepahijala District, sharing a substantial stretch of the international border with neighboring Bangladesh, served as the backdrop for the operation.
Addressing the press, Officer-In-Charge of Jatrapur Police station, Subrata Debnath, disclosed that they acted upon a tip-off regarding the presence of a large quantity of cannabis concealed by Abhijit Pal, a resident of Baspukur village. “We received information in the early hours of Wednesday and, in collaboration with police personnel and BSF jawans, conducted a joint raid in the Baspukur area. Upon raiding Abhijit Pal’s residence, we discovered cannabis concealed in various secret locations.
Approximately 358 kilograms of cannabis were seized, and Abhijit Pal was taken into custody.The estimated value of the seized contraband amounts to Rs 1.5 crores,” stated the police officer. He further elaborated that the cannabis was stashed in seven drums dispersed across different areas within Pal’s residence, indicating a sophisticated concealment operation.
